SMS Terms
Last Updated: June 18, 2026
Type2Fun Foundation, PBC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Ripls mobile application and website. These SMS Terms govern the text messages we send and receive as part of Ripls. By providing a mobile phone number to Ripls — or by being invited to Ripls by someone you know — you agree to these terms.
For a plain-language summary of how you consent to receive texts, see our SMS Opt-In & Consent page.
1. Messages We Send
Ripls sends only transactional, relationship-based text messages, in these categories:
- Account verification: one-time passcodes (OTP) to verify your phone number during sign-up or login.
- Invitations: a single message inviting you to an event, request, or giveaway created by a Ripls member who chose to invite you.
- Activity notifications: updates about things you're part of — RSVPs, offers, reminders, and community activity — including for people who were invited but haven't installed the app yet.
We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.
2. How You Opt In
Your number enters Ripls through one of two consented paths, both described in full on the SMS Opt-In & Consent page:
- You provide it. When you sign up or log in with your phone number, the phone-entry screen shows: "By clicking Send Code, you agree to receive event invites and community updates from Ripls. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help." Submitting your number is your opt-in. The opening phrase names what you are signing up for at that moment (an event invite, a help request, a shared item, or a community you're joining); the rest of the disclosure is identical on every screen.
- Someone you know invites you. A Ripls host may invite people they personally know by phone number, after attesting that they have permission to contact them. You receive one invitation message that names the host and Ripls and includes opt-out instructions.
3. Invitation Messages & Sender Responsibilities
If you invite someone to Ripls by entering their phone number, you represent and warrant that:
- you have a personal relationship with the recipient;
- you have the recipient's permission to send them an invitation by text;
- the number belongs to the person you intend to invite; and
- you will not contact anyone who has asked you not to, and will not use Ripls to send spam, harassment, or any unlawful message.
The recipient gets a single invitation and can opt out of all future messages at any time.
Example invitation: "Alex invited you to "Backyard BBQ" on Ripls — Sat Jun 21, 4pm. View & RSVP: https://ripls.app/go/AB12CD34 Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help."
4. Message Frequency & Rates
- Message frequency varies based on your account and community activity.
- Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan. Ripls does not charge for text messages.
- Delivery depends on your carrier and network. Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages.
- If you change or deactivate your mobile number, please update it in your Ripls account settings so messages aren't sent to a reassigned number.
5. Opt-Out, Help & Opt-In Keywords
You can stop messages at any time by replying to any message from Ripls:
- Stop all messages: reply STOP (also STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT).
- Get help: reply HELP (or INFO).
- Resume messages: reply START (or YES, UNSTOP).
Automated replies:
- STOP → "You're unsubscribed from Ripls and won't get more messages. Reply START to resubscribe."
- HELP → "Ripls: event invites & community updates. Help: support@ripls.org. Reply STOP to opt out. Msg & data rates may apply."
- START → "You're resubscribed to Ripls messages. Reply STOP to opt out."
When you opt out, we suppress your number promptly — and in any event within 10 business days — and do not contact it again, even at the request of a different member. You can also manage text preferences in your Ripls account settings.
6. Quiet Hours
We send non-urgent messages only between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the recipient's local time. Time-sensitive account or security messages (such as a verification code you requested) may arrive outside those hours.
7. Privacy of Your Mobile Information
We collect and use your phone number in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Text-messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, excluding the aggregators and carriers that deliver the messages. Your number is used only to operate the messaging features described here.
8. Acceptable Use & TCPA Compliance
Ripls complies with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and applicable state messaging laws. You agree not to use Ripls's text features to send unsolicited or bulk messages, to message anyone who has opted out, to impersonate others, or to violate any law. Misuse may result in suspension or termination of your account and may carry legal consequences.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. Changes are effective when posted here, and we will update the "Last Updated" date above.
